{"id":6100,"date":"2022-08-02T04:18:03","date_gmt":"2022-08-02T04:18:03","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/cryptoheretostay.com\/?p=6100"},"modified":"2022-08-02T04:18:04","modified_gmt":"2022-08-02T04:18:04","slug":"sec-charges-11-people-in-300-million-forsage-crypto-pyramid-and-ponzi-scheme","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/cryptoheretostay.com\/?p=6100","title":{"rendered":"SEC Charges 11 People in $300 Million Forsage Crypto Pyramid and Ponzi Scheme"},"content":{"rendered":"<p> <script type=\"text\/javascript\">\r\namzn_assoc_placement = \"adunit0\";\r\namzn_assoc_tracking_id = \"totafreearti-20\";\r\namzn_assoc_ad_mode = \"search\";\r\namzn_assoc_ad_type = \"smart\";\r\namzn_assoc_marketplace = \"amazon\";\r\namzn_assoc_region = \"US\";\r\namzn_assoc_default_search_phrase = \"crypto\";\r\namzn_assoc_default_category = \"All\";\r\namzn_assoc_search_bar = \"false\";\r\namzn_assoc_title = \"\";\r\namzn_assoc_rows =\"1\";\r\n<\/script>\r\n<script src=\"\/\/z-na.amazon-adsystem.com\/widgets\/onejs?MarketPlace=US\"><\/script><br \/>\n<\/p>\n<p><strong>The U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) has charged four founders and seven promoters of Forsage, which it described as \u201ca fraudulent crypto pyramid and Ponzi scheme.\u201d The scheme allegedly raised more than $300 million from millions of retail investors worldwide, including in the U.S.<br \/><\/strong><\/p>\n<h2>SEC Takes Action Against Forsage Crypto Scheme<\/h2>\n<p>The U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) announced Monday that it has \u201ccharged 11 individuals for their roles in creating and promoting Forsage, a fraudulent crypto pyramid and Ponzi scheme.\u201d The securities regulator explained that the Forsage scheme raised more than $300 million from millions of retail investors worldwide, including in the U.S.<\/p>\n<p>The 11 defendants are four Forsage founders, three U.S.-based promoters of the scheme, and \u201cseveral members of the so-called Crypto Crusaders \u2014 the largest promotional group for the scheme that operated in the United States,\u201d the SEC described. The founders were last known to be living in Russia, the Republic of Georgia, and Indonesia.<\/p>\n<p>The securities watchdog detailed that Vladimir Okhotnikov, Jane Doe (aka Lola Ferrari), Mikhail Sergeev, and Sergey Maslakov launched the Forsage.io website in January 2020 to allow retail investors to enter into transactions via smart contracts on the Ethereum, Tron, and Binance blockchains.<\/p>\n<p>However, Forsage investors earned profits by recruiting others into the scheme, the SEC said, noting that \u201cForsage also allegedly used assets from new investors to pay earlier investors in a typical Ponzi structure.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Carolyn Welshhans, acting chief of the SEC\u2019s Crypto Assets and Cyber Unit, commented:<\/p>\n<p>As the complaint alleges, Forsage is a fraudulent pyramid scheme launched on a massive scale and aggressively marketed to investors.<\/p>\n<p>Some regulators have tried to stop Forsage from operating in their jurisdictions. The Securities and Exchange Commission of the Philippines launched cease-and-desist actions against Forsage in September 2020 and the Montana Commissioner of Securities and Insurance took action against the scheme in March 2021. However, Forsage continued its operations, denying the allegations in Youtube videos.<\/p>\n<p>The SEC charged the defendants \u201cwith violating the registration and anti-fraud provisions of the federal securities laws,\u201d the regulator noted, adding that it \u201cseeks injunctive relief, disgorgement, and civil penalties.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Two of the promoters charged already agreed to settle the charges without admitting or denying the allegations. They will be required to pay disgorgement and civil penalties.
