{"id":415,"date":"2021-12-18T04:08:36","date_gmt":"2021-12-18T04:08:36","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/cryptoheretostay.com\/?p=415"},"modified":"2021-12-18T04:08:36","modified_gmt":"2021-12-18T04:08:36","slug":"harvard-mit-oxford-others-tap-2-5-billion-bitdao-to-aid-blockchain-education","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/cryptoheretostay.com\/?p=415","title":{"rendered":"Harvard, MIT, Oxford, others tap $2.5 billion BitDAO to aid blockchain education"},"content":{"rendered":"<p> <script type=\"text\/javascript\">\r\namzn_assoc_placement = \"adunit0\";\r\namzn_assoc_tracking_id = \"totafreearti-20\";\r\namzn_assoc_ad_mode = \"search\";\r\namzn_assoc_ad_type = \"smart\";\r\namzn_assoc_marketplace = \"amazon\";\r\namzn_assoc_region = \"US\";\r\namzn_assoc_default_search_phrase = \"crypto\";\r\namzn_assoc_default_category = \"All\";\r\namzn_assoc_search_bar = \"false\";\r\namzn_assoc_title = \"\";\r\namzn_assoc_rows =\"1\";\r\n<\/script>\r\n<script src=\"\/\/z-na.amazon-adsystem.com\/widgets\/onejs?MarketPlace=US\"><\/script><br \/>\n<\/p>\n<p>Eight world-famous universities, including UC Berkeley, Harvard, MIT, and Oxford, have founded a new decentralized autonomous organization (DAO) that will focus on addressing the \u201cfunding crisis and skills gap\u201d in blockchain research and education.<\/p>\n<p>Dubbed Education DAO (EduDAO), the new organization will have access to a pool of $2.5 billion worth of assets provided by BitDAO\u2014which touts itself as \u201cthe world\u2019s largest DAO-directed treasury\u201d\u2014to fund research in the fields of blockchain and the Web3 sector, according to an announcement shared with <i>CryptoSlate<\/i> today.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cPlacing the power of targeted funding and information distribution in the hands of a decentralized collective of students, faculty members, and alumni is a revolutionary step forward for institutions such as Harvard,\u201d<\/p>\n<p>said the Harvard Blockchain Club co-presidents Roman Ugarte and Virat Talwar in the press release.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMore generally, we\u2019re thrilled to be able to pioneer this innovative model and encourage the overall maturation of Web 3 as well as promote blockchain education for the general public.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The full list of EduDAO\u2019s university partners includes Blockchain at Berkeley, Penn Blockchain, Harvard Blockchain Club, MIT Sloan Blockchain Club, Blockchain at Michigan, [email\u00a0protected], Oxford Blockchain Society, and Tsinghua University Students Blockchain Association.<\/p>\n<h2>\u201cInnovators of tomorrow\u201d<\/h2>\n<p>EduDAO will act as an independent committee and will be allocating up to $11 million annually \u201cfor project grants, research, and standalone product development with $33 million in the fund to start.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Additionally, university groups will take part in BitDAO governance votes to help determine the protocol\u2019s future development and provide \u201crecurring contributions\u201d back to the project. The latter may include \u201cbuilding governance or treasury tooling improvements, contributing to other BitDAO funded DAOs, or building standalone products that benefit the BitDAO ecosystem.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201c[At UC Berkeley,] the funds from BitDAO will be used to support activities in the focus areas of DAOs and blockchain for the three RDI pillars\u2014Research, Education and Community\/Entrepreneurship,\u201d noted Jocelyn Weber Phipps, UC Berkeley\u2019s deputy director for RDI.\u201d We look forward to working with all the members of the EducationDAO community in the year ahead.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>As <i>CryptoSlate<\/i> reported, DAOs are becoming increasingly popular as a form of governance lately.
