{"id":13564,"date":"2023-10-09T04:50:48","date_gmt":"2023-10-09T04:50:48","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/cryptoheretostay.com\/?p=13564"},"modified":"2023-10-09T04:50:49","modified_gmt":"2023-10-09T04:50:49","slug":"bitcoin-is-a-super-logical-step-on-the-tech-tree-openai-ceo","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/cryptoheretostay.com\/?p=13564","title":{"rendered":"Bitcoin is a \u2018super logical\u2019 step on the tech tree: OpenAI CEO"},"content":{"rendered":"<script type=\"text\/javascript\">\r\namzn_assoc_placement = \"adunit0\";\r\namzn_assoc_tracking_id = \"totafreearti-20\";\r\namzn_assoc_ad_mode = \"search\";\r\namzn_assoc_ad_type = \"smart\";\r\namzn_assoc_marketplace = \"amazon\";\r\namzn_assoc_region = \"US\";\r\namzn_assoc_default_search_phrase = \"crypto\";\r\namzn_assoc_default_category = \"All\";\r\namzn_assoc_search_bar = \"false\";\r\namzn_assoc_title = \"\";\r\namzn_assoc_rows =\"1\";\r\n<\/script>\r\n<script src=\"\/\/z-na.amazon-adsystem.com\/widgets\/onejs?MarketPlace=US\"><\/script>\n<p>OpenAI CEO Sam Altman has called Bitcoin (BTC) a &#8220;super logical&#8221; step on the tech tree, which is both free of government control while helping to fight corruption.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;I\u2019m excited about Bitcoin,\u201d Altman told Joe Rogan during an Oct. 6 episode of\u00a0<em>The Joe Rogan Experience <\/em>podcast.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI think this idea that we have a global currency that is outside of the control of any government is a super logical and important step on the tech tree.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>The OpenAI boss&#8217; wide-ranging interview with Rogan covered his thoughts on Bitcoin as a world reserve currency and his concerns about central bank digital currencies (CBDCs).<\/p>\n<p>Altman, who also serves as founder of Worldcoin, said the shift to a \u201ctechnologically enabled world,\u201d including Bitcoin, could help reduce corruption. <\/p>\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">Creator of ChatGPT, Sam Altman says, \u201c#Bitcoin is a super logical and important step on the technology tree\u201d of humanity. pic.twitter.com\/2DGDzxIRrm<\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Documenting \u20bfitcoin  (@DocumentingBTC) October 7, 2023<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOne of the things that I&#8217;ve observed, obviously many other people too, is corruption is such an incredible hindrance to getting anything done in a society to make it forward progress,\u201d said Altman. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cBut in a world where payments, for example, are no longer like bags of cash but done somehow digitally and somebody, even if you&#8217;re using Bitcoin, can like watch those flows,&#8221; he said, adding:<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI think that&#8217;s like a corruption reducing thing.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, Rogan expressed his own optimism for Bitcoin despite skepticism of the wider cryptocurrency industry, saying he believes it can become a \u201cuniversal viable currency.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe real fascinating crypto is Bitcoin. To me, that&#8217;s the one that I think has the most likely possibility of becoming a universal viable currency. It&#8217;s limited in the amount that there can be [and] people mine it with their own [computer].\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThat to me is very fascinating. I love the fact that it&#8217;s been implemented,\u201d Rogan added.<\/p>\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">I disagree with Joe Rogan here. #Bitcoin\u00a0won\u2019t become a \u201cuniversal, viable currency\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>It already is universal, viable currency being used by millions of people globally.<br \/>pic.twitter.com\/RpMIHrQMUg<\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Dennis Porter (@Dennis_Porter_) October 7, 2023<\/p>\n<p>Altman, however, has been a long supporter of Bitcoin well before the podcast. In a blog post dated 10 years ago, Altman argued that a world transacting in Bitcoin would be more transparent. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cA world where we all transact in Bitcoin would be much more transparent, and financial transparency is great. It\u2019s perhaps the thing that would most reduce corruption,\u201d Altman said.<\/p>\n<h3>Rogan, Altman \u2018very worried\u2019 about CBDCs, slams U.S. war on crypto<\/h3>\n<p>Meanwhile, both Altman and Rogan said they were \u201csuper against\u201d CBDCs and expressed worry about the United States becoming a surveillance state.<\/p>\n<p>Rogan argued that CBDCs could give governments even more control over how people spend their money:<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI&#8217;m very worried about central bank digital currency and that being tied to a social credit score. That scares the shit out of me. The push to that is not for the overall good of society, that&#8217;s for control.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><strong><em>Related: <\/em><\/strong><strong><em>CBDC frameworks must guard user privacy, monetary freedom \u2014 BIS chief<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Altman added he hasn\u2019t been impressed with how the U.S. government has treated the cryptocurrency industry recently:<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThere&#8217;s many things that I\u2019m disappointed that the U.S. government has done recently, but the war on crypto, which I think is a like, we can\u2019t give this up, like we\u2019re going to control this and all that.
