Source: Google Trends<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Mark Schilsky, an Alliance Bernstein technology specialist noted on May 31 that AI was \u201cstill far below the absolute hype of Bitcoin,\u201d according to a report from Business Insider. His analysis was specifically focused on U.S. search trends.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Schilisky compared the three \u201cbuzziest segments of the tech industry\u201d over the past ten years, \u201cAI\u201d, \u201cmetaverse\u201d, and Bitcoin,\u201d to reveal that the peak of search volume for \u201cBitcoin\u201d is higher than the peak of search volume for AI so far.<\/p>\n<h3>China says Bitcoin who?\u00a0<\/h3>\n<p>The results, however, vastly differ in China, where cryptocurrency is banned and Google search is restricted. Source: Google Trends<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Throughout the last decade, there were only three instances in which Bitcoin surpassed AI searches in China, which line up with significant Bitcoin-related events.<\/p>\n<p>In November 2013, Bitcoin surpassed AI as a search time in China for the first time, coinciding with it reaching its highest-ever level of $300 on the now-defunct cryptocurrency exchange Mt. Gox.<\/p>\n<p>In December 2017, Bitcoin once again took the lead in search interest, which was when Bitcoin hit all-time highs of $17,249.92 at the time.<\/p>\n<p>The third and most recent occurrence took place in February 2021, as Bitcoin soared above $43,000 following the news that Tesla had bought $1.5 billion worth of Bitcoin, and its decision to start accepting Bitcoin payments.<\/p>\n<p>The country banned cryptocurrencies in 2021, and shortly after it was reported by Cointelegraph\u2019s staff in China that online searches for several major cryptocurrency exchanges were returning zero results.<\/p>\n<p><strong><em>Related: <\/em><\/strong><strong><em>Australia asks if \u2018high-risk\u2019 AI should be banned in surprise consultation<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, China has seen searches for \u201cAI\u201d hit their all-time high of 100 in April 2023. Today, the search score is around 94.<\/p>\n<p>In May, Flytek, a state-sponsored Chinese AI company, announced it is launching \u201cSpark Model\u201d an AI system designed to compete directly with OpenAI\u2019s ChatGPT.<\/p>\n<p>Chinese officials recently discussed the need for \u201cdedicated efforts to safeguard political security and improve the security governance of internet data and artificial intelligence,\u201d during a meeting on May 30. According to a local media outlet it was stated:<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe must be prepared for worst-case and extreme scenarios and be ready to withstand the major test of high winds, choppy waters and even dangerous storms.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><strong><em>Magazine: <\/em><\/strong><strong><em>Make 500% from ChatGPT stock tips?
